Candidates selected for this position will play a significant role in the rapidly expanding Bachelor of Entrepreneurship & Business Innovation, Master of Strategic Management, and Master in International Management programs offered by the department. We prioritize exceptional education grounded in scientific research that equips our students for successful careers in the business world.

As one of our new professors you will play a pivotal role in nurturing our students' enterprising spirit and strategising competencies. We expect you to impact the research field(s) and, of course, practitioners. Successful candidates have research and teaching interests in (combinations of) various subfields of entrepreneurship., business innovation, and/or strategy. We are looking for candidates with demonstrated excellence in entrepreneurship research (for appointment at the associate level through multiple top publications, think of AMJ, SMJ, ASQ, or equivalent), plus evidence of strong teaching, service, and grant application ability.

CRITERIA

We look for candidates who can fulfil the following criteria in a balanced approach:

  • Research: A record of research excellence as evidenced by papers published in premier academic journals, including an active research agenda and demonstrated leadership within the entrepreneurship community. The candidate must advocate, lead, and contribute to departmental research activities.
  • Education: A demonstrated teaching excellence in entrepreneurship, innovation, and/or strategy fields. We expect all candidates to contribute to outstanding education at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The ability to teach in Dutch is a plus. Possession of a (Senior) University Teaching Qualification is a plus. A track record with experiential and challenge-based course designs is necessary for some of the teaching-oriented position openings.
  • Impact: For the senior positions, we value significant service and contribution to the scholarly community, as evidenced by current or past editorial board memberships of premier academic journals, conferences, and workshops, as well as serving in grant review committees.
  • Grant acquisition: Research-oriented candidates are expected to be active in acquiring research grants. Leadership in industry partnerships and a record of externally funded research are valued highly.
  • Leadership: Managerial and leadership experience will be a plus. The candidate is expected to collaborate with and coach junior researchers and teachers on the team and understand and act in line with the vision of the department, school, and university.
  • Team spirit: The candidate is accountable for contributing to a positive culture within teams, the department, the school, and the university. We expect that candidates foster team-play by encouraging and supporting the efforts of others.

REQUIREMENTS

Are you:

  • A candidate with a doctoral degree from an AACSB-accredited school or from a school with outstanding scholarly credentials,
  • Someone with disciplinary roots in industrial design engineering, sociology, business administration, economics, or psychology,
  • Experienced in teaching courses in (combinations of) various subfields of entrepreneurship, strategy, and/or innovation,

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

We offer contracts with 20-60% research time based on past research output, and the position. Tenure decisions are made based on performance indicators agreed upon at the start of the appointment. The starting gross salary for assistant professors is based on scale 11 of the Collective Labor Agreement Dutch Universities. Depending on experience and background candidates may be eligible for a starter grant funded by the Dutch government. 

You are entitled to a holiday allowance amounting to 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% of your gross yearly income. Faculty moving to the Netherlands may be eligible for a tax abatement for a period of five years (30% facility). DEPARTMENT

Committed to academic excellence, the Department of Strategy and Entrepreneurship stands at the forefront of shaping future entrepreneurs, innovators, (strategic) management professionals, and management consultants. We pride ourselves on providing transformational education experiences with courses and programs rooted in the latest research and closely aligned with industry needs. We teach introductory and advanced courses across the Tilburg School of Economics and Management degree programs. The introduction of the E&BI program triggered the school to invest in its Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation faculty. The department recently hired two full professors and several assistant and associate professors in this area. The current position openings further complement this strategic focus.

Our teaching portfolio leverages our entrepreneurship, strategy, business innovation, and international management knowledge to educate undergraduate and (pre-experience) master students. Given the key role of experiential learning in the E&BI program, we are keen to recruit junior faculty eager to develop into experiential educators. Our department members come from leading universities in Europe, North America, and Asia. We are a diverse and collegial group of both research-oriented and education-oriented colleagues. Department members publish widely in highly regarded management journals such as ASQ, AMJ, SMJ, OrgSci, JIBS, and MgtSci, as well as in core entrepreneurship journals such as the Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, and the Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal.
