The Business School is a faculty at Nord University and the third largest business school in Norway in terms of PhD education. The Business School has 2 000 students and 200 employees. The academic staff is organized in sections responsible for teaching and research within their subject area. The Business School works closely with business, government and society and encompasses several research centers.

Professor / Associate Professor in the field of accounting and management control.

The appointees will have responsibility for research, teaching and supervision at the master level as well as supervision of PhD candidates in the field of accounting and management control. Some teaching at the bachelor level may also be required. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to academic research as well as the development of study programmes and teaching methods.

The position is placed within the section for economic analysis and accounting, which covers the following areas: accounting, auditing, budgeting, management control, finance and investment, economics and research methods.


The basis for appointment to the position of professor is a level of academic achievement in accordance with international and national standards within the field, including:

  • A doctoral degree within accounting and/or management control or equivalent accreditation or standing
  • Documented contribution to academic research within the field
  • Demonstrated record of obtaining external research funding
  • Teaching experience and pedagogical experience/training
  • Relevant professional experience
  • Cooperative, organizational and administrative skills and experience
  • Commitment to creating a good academic environment

Applicants will be assessed by an expert committee. In the assessment of academic qualifications, the committee will place emphasis on whether the applicant’s experience and academic research complement the academic milieu at Nord University Business School.
Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed, and may be asked to give a public lecture.

Candidates who do not speak Norwegian at the time of application undertake to master Norwegian or an equivalent Scandinavian language within three years. The appointees will be expected to maintain a working presence on campus.

Salary and working conditions

The position is remunerated according to the Norwegian State Salary Scale, salary placement (Lpl.) 17.510, code 1013 Professor, code 1011 Associate Professor. Salary by agreement.

As an employee of Nord University, the successful candidate will be a member of the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund and will acquire access to other social benefits. A statutory payment to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund will be deducted from the salary automatically. The successful candidate must comply with the laws, agreements and directives as they apply to the position at any given time. The responsibilities and duties linked to the position may be subject to change as a result of restructuring at Nord University.
