Faculty Position in Finance

The Asian University for Women (AUW) seeks applications for a full-time faculty position in the Economics Undergraduate Program / Finance Minor, to begin in August 2019. Located in the port city of Chittagong, Bangladesh, AUW is a liberal arts institution, including an international faculty and home to over 800 students from 17Asian countries. The university is dedicated to teaching excellence in a liberal arts setting, with a strong commitment to research and scholarly engagement. Field of expertise: Finance and Management / Finance and Entrepreneurship.
The appointed faculty will lead the development of a new Minor in Finance focused on introducing students to the theoretical principles of finance, as well as understanding of management and entrepreneurship. The Minor will draw upon experiential learning, Internship for Credit, and visiting professionals. Applicants from any area of competence and specialization in Finance/Economics will be considered, with a preference for expertise or experience of developing countries in Asia.

Academic Rank: Assistant Professor/Associate Professor

Start Date: August 19, 2019; 1-year contract, renewable based on satisfactory performance.

Gross Compensation Package: Starting at USD 33,000 – 48,000 per annum (based on rank) including benefits, such as deferred compensation, accommodation, annual travel, health insurance.
Non-Bangladeshi citizens eligible for income tax exemption in Bangladesh.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Finance or related field, from a recognized university.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence.
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills using statistical packages.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate with others through speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

Duties:

  • Plan, develop, and teach courses and seminars for undergraduate students taking the Finance minor, Development Studies, and other academic programs offered by AUW.
  • Serve as academic advisor and mentor to students.
  • Supervise students in developing and implementing senior thesis projects including guiding them in data analysis, thesis writing and presentation.
  • Attract funding and engage in research.
  • Provide leadership and service on academic committees.

Teaching requirement: six 4-credit courses per academic year; expected to teach from among: Financial Markets and Institutions; Corporate Finance, Entrepreneurial Finance; Financial Accounting; International Finance, Money and Banking; Bank Management; Regional Challenges, Business Analytics.
