We are now inviting applications primarily for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor (Tenure track) in International Business. However, applicants for the position of Professor may also be considered. The level depends on the merits and career stage of the applicant.

The position is located in the School of Marketing and Communication and the research is connected to the University’s VEBIC (Vaasa Energy Business Innovation Centre) research platform, which provides a leading edge international research infrastructure that serves both academic and industrial needs. The School of Marketing and Communication comprises three subjects: International Business, Marketing, and Communication. The school's particular strong areas in research are consumer behaviour, creating new business concepts, customer-driven product development, internationalisation and globalisation of small and medium-sized enterprises, international joint-ventures and acquisitions, international marketing strategies,  communication in organisations, online chats and communities, video games, media discourse, and user experience of information systems. Job description

The field of the position is international business, with a special focus on the challenges of international marketing. The position centres around examining the challenges of international marketing especially in the field of sustainability and energy business. The main challenges of international marketing are:

  • Servitisation, networks and customer relationships in the international market
  • Entrepreneurial operation in international marketing (identifying and utilising international opportunities, innovative and entrepreneurial marketing)
  • Internationalisation (international expansion paths, business models, entry strategies, project export, joint ventures)
  • International marketing strategies and their effectiveness

The research of the open position focuses on the challenges of international marketing especially in the field of sustainability and energy business. The applicant is expected to have conducted research in an area of international marketing, but this is not expected for sustainability and energy business.

The Tenure Track position is research-orientated, but the appointed person will also participate in teaching and thesis supervision as well as undertake other tasks such as acquiring external funding and university administration. The scope of responsibilities will be determined according to the career stage of the successful candidate. The teaching and supervising duties of the position are connected to the Bachelor’s and Master’s Programmes in International Business and Doctoral Programme in Business Studies. The tasks are agreed upon in more detail in the annual working time plan (1624 h).

Applicants should have an appropriate doctoral degree, excellent academic merits, and demonstrated potential for conducting outstanding research. We are particularly interested in applicants with interdisciplinary interests and strong records of, or potential for, excellence in teaching. Experience in obtaining research project funding as well as high-quality scientific publishing are both highlighted. Applicants will also be evaluated on the basis of relevancy and innovativeness of their preliminary research plan on how they would approach the phenomena related to the research platform from the point of view of their own research field.

The salary is based on the Finnish University Salary System for Teaching and Research Staff. The Assistant Professor's salary level is based on demand levels 5-6 and Associate Professor's position 6-7. The Professor's demand level is 8-10. An additional personal salary component is paid based on work performance.

Tenure track at the University of Vaasa

The University’s Tenure track procedure offers the recruited person an opportunity to advance to become a professor of their discipline. The selected candidate can advance to the next career stage provided that he/she succeeds in the regular evaluations of the Tenure track scheme. On the basis of the candidate’s experience and competence, he/she may be employed for a fixed term as Assistant Professor (2-5 years) or Associate Professor (3-5 years). A person demonstrating particular merits and indisputably filling the qualification requirements may be appointed to the position of professor on a permanent basis.
