The RCSI Institute of Leadership is Ireland’s only third level institution dedicated exclusively to the development of management and leadership competencies of healthcare professionals. More than 450 healthcare professionals are registered annually on our academic programmes and up to 1500 undertake our short development programmes annually. The Institute is a fully accredited academic School of the RCSI Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and maintains close connections with the world of healthcare delivery both in Ireland and internationally. Objective of the role:

To provide teaching and administration support for the RCSI Institute of Leadership academic programmes, undertake research and contribute to the development of the Institute and RCSI in the Middle East.  While the individual will be based in Dubai they are expected to deliver in both sites (Dubai and Bahrain) and travel between them accordingly.

Specific Responsibilities include:

  • Co-directing and co-administering on Masters, Postgraduate Diploma, Diploma programmes and professional development courses as required
  • Act as Program Director of either year 1 or year 2 of the MSc programme
  • Deliver a minimum of two modules of the MSc year 1 programme
  • Actively pursue Executive Development / CPD opportunities
  • Engaging in, supervising, facilitating and publishing research
  • Ensuring that requirements of the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, HEC, CAA and other relevant accrediting bodies are met.
  • Participating in the development of blended learning systems for course delivery, ensuring continuous quality improvement in our programmes, systems and customer care services.
  • Contributing to the development of new IOL and RCSI programmes, short courses, projects and services
  • Participating in and contributing to the Institute’s governance and management processes
  • Committing to the development of courses and modules and their delivery as assigned across day, evening, open and distance/e-learning programmes in Dubai, Bahrain, Ireland and other locations as required
  • Supervising students and assisting in the selection of topics and the submission of dissertations, action learning projects and theses on various programmes, as required
  • Forming links and liaising with other third level institutions/management institutes /other such bodies in order to keep up to date in developments in the market
  • Representing and promoting RCSI’s programmes and services at exhibitions, information fora, and conferences as required
  • Establishing relations with key customers in healthcare and higher education organisations and ensuring their satisfaction with regard to the programmes being offered and the fulfilling of their future needs
  • Marketing programmes, meeting and liaising with potential students and employers and helping to ensure that the target numbers of students are enrolled on each programme – this includes visiting current students at their place of employment
  • Contributing to the development of budgets and helping to implement the Institute’s development strategy
  • Applying for research grants/tenders and attracting funding

General requirements:

  • Complying with UAE statutory legislation requirements and RCSI/Institute rules and requirements in furtherance of general staff welfare and safety
  • Participating in the RCSI’s Performance and Development Process
  • Undergoing programmes of training and development as may be required from time to time
  • Representing the best interests of the Institute/RCSI at all times
  • Undertaking overseas assignments as may be required
  • Performing such other duties as may be required from time to time

Key Performance Indicators

  • Contributing to the IOL’s suite of programmes
  • Producing and publishing research
  • Directing or managing specific programmes or modules as required and contributing to the design and delivery of specified programmes within the Institute.
  • Assisting in the expansion of the RCSI’s educational activities in the UAE
  • Ensuring that all academic activities meet the required quality standards of the CAA, Ministry for Higher Education and other relevant accrediting bodies are met.
  • Contributing to the re-licensure, accreditation and re-accreditation process of the UAE Ministry for Higher Education and Scientific Research
  • Maximising the strategic development potential of the Institute’s virtual learning environment and other blended learning technologies.
  • Contributing to the development of budgets and the implementation of the Institute’s development plan and helping to ensure that target numbers of students are recruited.
  • Using talent, experience and competencies to contribute to the strategic development of the Institute of Leadership in all its locations.
  • Undertaking overseas assignments as required.
  • Generating external funding in the form of research grants/tenders.

Person Specification:

  • PhD/Doctorate in management/leadership/quality sciences or a cognate discipline is essential. A strong background in quality management would be a distinct advantage.
  • Significant experience of teaching and assessing postgraduate students in a higher education institution.
  • Motivation to undertake research is essential
  • Experience gained in a management and leadership role especially in quality improvement, risk management and the application of quality improvement systems in the healthcare, education or similar sectors.
  • Experience of providing education and training at postgraduate level is required
  • 5-7 years relevant work experience
  • Excellent presentation and verbal/written communication skills
  • Personal drive, energy and enthusiasm to deliver and inspire the achievement and delivery of excellent results
  • Strong commitment to quality improvement
  • A high degree of self-motivation
  • Commitment to internal and external customer service
  • Capability to work effectively on own initiative and as part of real/ virtual team
  • Ability to work flexibly, to travel, and adapt to evolving needs in a changing and multicultural environment

Particulars of the post

This post requires a two round interview process. The first round of interviews conducted via call or video conference. The second round a formal interview with a presentation in either Dublin, Dubai or Bahrain. The potential date for the first round of interview is the week commencing the 08-04-2019.
