If Ningbo were a country it would be rated as the 53rd largest economy in the world, on a par with New Zealand, and be classified as ‘high income’ by the World Bank.  It is the world’s largest cargo port and the 3rd biggest container port.  Ningbo is also a centre of entrepreneurial private businesses and manufacturing industry, for example automotive components.  Ningbo companies are increasingly globalizing their operations, while foreign companies are also active.  This makes Ningbo an attractive place for business and management research.

As a key component of UNNC, NUBS China is also an integral part of the Nottingham University Business School awarding the same internationally recognized degrees offered by Nottingham in the UK. In operation for just over 10 years, NUBS China currently has approximately 2,800 students of which about 400 are enrolled in postgraduate programmes including a Ph.D. programme. It has a rapidly expanding international faculty of about 90, all based in Ningbo China and coming from 27 countries or so.  The school is EQUIS accredited and is part of a university that is highly rated and is seeking to improve further its ranking among the world’s top research and teaching universities.  NUBS China focuses its efforts around the three "I"s-International, Innovative, and Interactive. Since 2011, NUBS China has rapidly progressed towards an increasing focus on high impact research, customized executive education, and high quality teaching.

Candidates with or without a PhD (or close to completion) degree with teaching experience in the relevant disciplines (Information systems and Operations Management), as well as excellent communication and presentation skills in English. Experience of teaching and tutorial work in relevant subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate level in an international English-speaking institution is also essential.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach lectures and seminars in Information Systems and Operations Management across all years of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and contribute to the supervision of undergraduate and master’s dissertations.

Salary will be within the range of RMB 311,681 – RMB 372,162 per annum depending on skills and experience (salary progression beyond this is subject to performance). In addition, an attractive package including accommodation allowance, travel allowance and insurance will be provided for international appointments.

The post will initially be offered on a fixed term contract with the University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China for a period of three years starting 1 September 2020. This contract may be extended on an indefinite basis by mutual agreement, subject to revised terms and conditions.

Job Outline:

The successful candidate will be expected to deliver lectures and seminars in Information Systems and Operations Management areas to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.  In addition, he/she will be expected to undertake some administrative duties.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Teaching

  • To prepare and deliver lectures and seminars/tutorials at either undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels.
  • To participate in the assessments for initial and higher degrees and diplomas of UNNC.
  • To contribute to course and curriculum development and design, including course management (where appropriate).
  • To support and comply with UNNC teaching quality assurance standards and procedures.

Administration

  • To serve on committees
  • To help with various administrative activities
  • To participate in the administration of the Nottingham University Business School China. This may include membership of relevant committees and working groups.
  • To liaise, as appropriate, with academic and administrative colleagues in Nottingham, UK.
  • To act as a personal tutor for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • To take part in and contribute to staff development activities consistent with continuing professional development.
  • Any other duties appropriate to the post and the seniority of the person appointed.

Qualifications/ Education

  • A Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline.
