The Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies operates on two campuses of the University of Eastern Finland – in Joensuu and Kuopio. The faculty trains experts in the fields of history, geography, economics and business administration, law, social sciences, and social and health management. The faculty's research is closely linked to the research areas identified in the university's strategy. The faculty has approximately 4,300 Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students and approximately 450 postgraduate students actively pursuing their studies. The faculty has approximately 300 staff members.

an Associate Professor (Tenure Track) position in Innovation Management, Business School, Kuopio Campus

The Associate Professor position (Tenure Track) will be hosted by the Business School at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies, more specifically by the specialisation of innovation management. The Business School of the University of Eastern Finland operates on both the Kuopio and Joensuu campuses. The position will be located in Kuopio.

In the currently vacant position, the Tenure Track can be entered from the Associate Professor level onwards. At the end of the term, the merits of the person will be evaluated to determine whether he or she can proceed to the next level of the Tenure Track, i.e. be appointed as a Professor without public notice of vacancy. The criteria, objectives and results to be achieved during the term in order to proceed to the next level of the Tenure Track will be agreed in detail with the appointee when signing the contract of employment.

The position is sought to be filled for a fixed term of four years as from 1 August 2021. The position is filled for a fixed term due to it being a Tenure Track position.

The work of the Innovation Management Research Group addresses the management and organisation of sustainable innovation activities. In addition to management, organisation and business renewal, the group’s research focuses on the processes of developing new business activities. We explore these themes in research settings that cross discipline boundaries, especially the in the changing contexts of health and the environment. We use student-centred methods in our constantly renewing blended learning.

The role of the Associate Professor will be to strengthen research and education in the field of management by focusing on themes addressing management and organisations in the context of innovation management.

A person to be appointed as an Associate Professor in the Tenure Track shall hold a suitable doctoral degree and have good teaching skills. Furthermore, a person to be appointed as an Associate Professor in the Tenure Track shall have the prerequisites for fulfilling the qualification requirements of a Professor by the end of the Tenure Track term (UEF University Regulations, Section 31).

The person to be appointed to the position is expected to hold a Doctor of Economics and Business Administration degree or another applicable doctorate in the field of management and organisations. In addition, the person is expected to have achievements in research addressing management and organisations, as well as prior experience in teaching and supervising students.

The Associate Professor is expected to participate in project activities in the specialisation of innovation management, as well as in the acquisition of national and international research funding, and in international research networks. When assessing the research achievements of the person to be appointed to the position, consideration will be given to articles published in national and international journals, and research collaboration, as well as to experience in leading a research group, applying for and securing external funding, and leading research projects.

In addition, the person to be appointed to the position is expected to give teaching in the field of the specialisation, supervise students at the Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral levels, and participate in other activities of the Business School. Teaching can be given in Finnish or in English. When assessing achievements relating to teaching and supervision of students, consideration will be given to earlier experience in university-level teaching and supervision of students, participation in the development of teaching, and pedagogical qualification.

The person to be appointed to the position is expected to have excellent skills in the English language, and to be able to supervise students and give teaching in English.

The salary of the Associate Professor position is based on level 7 of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff (3,989.91 euros/month). In addition to the job requirement component, the salary is supplemented by a personal performance component, which can be a maximum of 50% of the job requirement component. A trial period is applied to new members of the university's staff.
