University Professor (f/m)

for the subject area of

Sustainable Mining Engineering

pursuant to § 98 of the Austrian University Act (UG) 2002

is to be filled in the form of an unlimited employment contract under public law in accordance with the Salaried Employees Act, on a full-time employment basis.

Montanuniversitaet is seeking a personality of international standing who will carry out research in and teach the subject area of “Sustainable Mining Engineering”.

The specialty field of the position “Sustainable Mining Engineering” comprises the extraction of mineral resources (in particular above ground and underground), mineral economics and post-mining. The future research orientation of the Chair of “Mining Engineering and Mineral Economics” shall focus on the development of methods and procedures in mining engineering (such as excavation of hard rock and soft rock), rock mechanics, mine surveying as well as mine planning including national, European and international raw materials economy and policy. The applicant must demonstrate internationally visible and recognized expertise in at least one of these research areas. As integral part of this professorship, the term “sustainable” shall indicate the importance of environmental, safety-related and socio-political aspects as well as efficient extraction and utilization of natural resources in the conflicting interplay between nature, society and technology.

With respect to teaching, the position holder is involved primarily in the Bachelor program “Mineral Resources Engineering” and Master programs “Mining and Tunnelling” as well as „International Master of Science in Advanced Mineral Resources Development“. The Chair of “Mining Engineering and Mineral Economics” and the Department “Mineral Resources Engineering” are involved in international education and research programs, therefore the official languages are German and English. For those applicants for whom German is not a native language, a willingness to learn the German language in spoken and written form is required.

Vital importance is attached to the disposition to collaboration with the other chairs in the Department “Mineral Resources Engineering” and further departments.

A university degree and relevant doctorate are required for employment. The habilitation or an equivalent scientific qualification is a prerequisite.

The applicant is expected to have experience in teaching and research and possesses adequate didactic skills. He/she shall have a proven competence record of applying engineering knowledge related to solving questions arising in industry during his/her professional activities. Leadership skills and teamwork capabilities in particular are presumed.

Residency in the Greater Leoben area is desired.

Pay scale classification is in the A 1 bracket in accordance with the Collective Agreement for University Employees. In this bracket, the monthly salary stipulated for full-time employment in the collective agreement is € 5,321.70 gross (excluding 13th and 14th special payments). Given appropriate qualification, a higher salary may be negotiated.
