About the Faculty of Business and Communication Studies: Bissett School of Business

The Department of Entrepreneurship, Marketing and Social Innovation, Faculty of Business and Communication Studies at Mount Royal University invites applications for a tenure track position which will commence July 1, 2021, subject to final budgetary approval, at the rank of Assistant Professor. The rank is commensurate with experience.

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program is designed to prepare students to be successful in the commercial, nonprofit, and public sectors of the Canadian and global economy while being engaged citizens in their communities. The BBA is primarily designed to prepare students for immediate employment upon graduation. The BBA may also be considered sufficient preparation for admission to appropriate and relevant professional accreditation programs as well as graduate degrees offered by many Canadian and international universities. BBA students will have the opportunity to specialize in one of four majors, including Accounting, Human Resources, and Marketing. We also offer a General Management major which allows students to specialize in other fields of business, including Financial Analysis, Financial Services, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, International Business, Social Innovation and Supply Chain Management. Students may also use the General Management major to pursue minors in areas of study offered outside of the Bissett School of Business.

The Department currently offers a degree program in Business Administration with a major, minor and certificate in Marketing, and minors and concentrations in both Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation. The Bachelor of Business Administration – Marketing program develops marketing professionals who can effectively blend insight, strategy, and creativity to bring extraordinary products, services, and campaigns to the marketplace. While considering the theoretical and functional strategy-focused curriculum common in most undergraduate marketing degrees, the ‘ideal marketer’ was reimagined with the support of industry.  This reimagined curriculum is designed to support organizations that require future leaders to have foundation in both creative and strategic knowledge, skills, and abilities. Students are exposed to marketing in many experiential learning settings and work with real-life clients including non-profit organizations, marketing agencies, startups and large corporations, and in-house marketing teams across a variety of industries.

About the Role

The ideal candidate will have expertise and currency in the use of data analytics, digital and social media marketing, however, candidates working in all areas of marketing are encouraged to apply.

Mount Royal University is committed to teaching and learning informed by scholarship. The successful candidate will demonstrate a history of teaching excellence, will have experience facilitating student learning in an undergraduate setting, and will possess a strong ability to integrate theories of scholarly teaching and learning within their practice, and will embody excellence in work integrated, experiential and active learning approaches to teaching in higher education.

The appointed individual will be expected to collaborate actively with community partners and be involved in course and program development.  The successful candidate will actively contribute to enhance the School’s vision, culture, and reputation, including participating in service/committee related to the ongoing operations of the university.

A terminal degree in Marketing or in a related field is preferred, however, we will consider highly qualified candidates who are ABD. Preference will be given to candidates with significant industry experience and who demonstrated excellence in innovative teaching at an undergraduate level.

New faculty are hired into one of two work patterns. The teaching/ scholarship/ service pattern (TSS) has a focus on teaching with the requirement that the faculty member be involved in a research program as well as service to the Mount Royal community. The teaching/ service pattern (TS) has a focus on teaching and service. There is an option to change work patterns after tenure. This role is open to candidates in either the TSS or TS work pattern.

Applicants interested in the TSS work pattern must be committed to a scholarly research program that contributes to both academia and to the broader community. This is evidenced through engagement in both scholarly and professional forums and publications. Some research support is available at the faculty and university level.
