Post doc in organization studies, Lund University School of Economics and Management

In collaboration with Handelsbanken's Tore Browaldhs Stiftelse, the Department of Business Administration, Lund University School of Economics and Management announces a three-year postdoc stipend within organization studies.

The candidate will work and contribute within the area “Cultures of Speed in Contemporary Management and Organization” coordinated by the Organization Group at the Department of Business Administration.

This research area has been developed on basis of the observation that organizational life in contemporary society is characterized by speed at an extreme level and an acceleration in terms of ideas, technologies, strategies, and practices for constant renewal. Yet, we are still to understand the potentially harmful effects on individuals, organizations, and society. A scholarly countermovement has brought renewed attention to ideas of slowness, deep reflection, craft and professionalism, and long-term planning in management and organizations.

We seek a candidate who is interested in developing this new line of research of “Culture of Speed in Management and Organization” with a deep interest and specialization within organization studies more broadly. It will be up to the individual candidate to give form and content to the research project based on the theoretical and empirical interests of the candidate. As such, we are open to approaching the phenomenon of culture of speed from a variety of perspectives such as temporality, identity, culture, power, leadership, professionalism, craft, strategy, practice, materiality, change, gender, etc.

The expectations of the recruited postdoc are to conduct research of high quality relevant to the research area outlined, publish in internationally leading journals, communicate research findings outside of academia, collaborate with members of the group, and engage in the further development of the research area and the broader field of organization studies at the department.

The Organization Group at the Dept. of Business Administration, Lund University, is an active and internationally recognized arena for high-class critical and interpretive research focusing specifically on close-up empirical studies to understand what happens in and around organizations. Our current organizational research and teaching cover a broad palette of topics, ranging from leadership, identity, and branding to knowledge work, gender, and change.

This is a career development position primarily focused on research. In addition to the three-year research stipend, it is possible and recommended to teach and supervise on courses within organization studies (or Business Administration more broadly) (maximum 30%).

The assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers. The main assessment criteria are as follows:

Basic requirements

  • A completed Ph.D. within the subject of the position or a related topic, not older than 5 years (adjustment may be done due to sick leave or parental leave).
  • Proficiency in English (verbal and written).

Further requirements

  • Documented experience in qualitative method.
  • Convincing research plan for future research within “Cultures of Speed in Contemporary Management and Organization”.

  • Demonstrated competence and interest in the research area Cultures of Speed in Contemporary Management and Organization or similar.
  • Documented experience of publishing in academic journals and/or books.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, enthusiasm for research, ability to conduct research independently, ability to initiate and complete projects, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the project research group.

The researcher is funded through a full-time stipend for 3 years. The stipend includes SEK 610.000 per year for full-time and covers the cost of living (SEK 460.000), insurance/pension (SEK 100.000), and expenses (SEK 50.000).
