Role and salary

As our new Assistant or Associate Professor in Sustainable Consumer Behavior, you will be working in the Business School at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies. At the Business School you will join the Marketing and Consumer Behavior research group (https://uefconnect.uef.fi/en/group/marketing-and-consumer-behavior-research-group/) that is a part of the multidisciplinary Forests and Bioeconomy (FOBI) research community (https://www.uef.fi/en/research-community/forests-and-bioeconomy-fobi) at the UEF. The FOBI research community is a highly regarded academic community of more than 150 researchers, with over 30 professors, associate professors, or research directors, 20 senior researchers or university lecturers, 20 post-doctoral researchers, and around 50 full-time doctoral students.

We seek highly motivated candidates whose research complement and strengthen the Business School, the research group, and the FOBI research community in the area of sustainable consumer behavior. FOBI has experts in diverse fields such as chemistry, nutrition sciences, wood material science, and forestry dealing with biofuels, sustainable innovative food and wood products, and other bio-based materials. We are looking for an expert interested in understanding the end-user behavior and consumer decision-making related to sustainable bio-based products and services. Digitalization plays a growing role in the consumer behavior of today and, therefore, the candidate would benefit from an understanding of consumer behavior in a digital and virtual environment. Ideally, the candidate should demonstrate research competence and excellence in the fields including, but not limited to, marketing, psychology, decision-making, sustainable and/or ethical consumption, international marketing, quantitative modeling, data analytics, and experimental studies.

As our new Assistant or Associate Professor, your main responsibilities are to:

  • produce high-impact world-class research in the field of sustainable consumer behavior,
  • actively apply for external research funding from foundations, the Academy of Finland, and the EU, for example,
  • supervise Master’s thesis and PhD students,
  • teach in a field appropriate to the task.

The position is a full-time Tenure Track position to be filled for a fixed four-year term from 1 December 2021 (or as agreed). The merits of the applicant determine the entry level of the position (Assistant or Associate Professor). At the end of the term, the merits and performance of the person will be assessed to determine if he or she can proceed to the next level in the tenure track. A probationary period is applied to all new members of the UEF staff. University of Eastern Finland operates in two campuses, Kuopio and Joensuu. This position can be located on either the Kuopio or Joensuu campuses.

The salary of the position is determined in accordance with the salary system of the Finnish universities. The salary comprises two components: a job requirement component and a personal performance component. In this position, the job requirement component is 3, 498.98 €/month for Assistant Professor and 4, 033.80 €/month for Associate Professor, based on the levels 6 - 7 of the job requirement chart for teaching and research staff. In addition, the personal performance component can be a minimum of 6 % and a maximum of 50 % of the above-mentioned sum. The estimated monthly salary in the beginning of the employment will be 3, 848 - 5, 042 €/per month.

  • a proven ability to operate in international scientific networks,
  • high level personal motivation for scientific excellence in research,
  • experience in supervising academic thesis,
  • good teaching skills.
