PhD Research Fellows in the fields of; crowdfunding, circular economy, accounting, auditing and work life research

The School of Business and Law at The University of Agder invites applications for 4-6 fixed-term appointments as PhD Research Fellows in the fields of; crowdfunding, circular economy, accounting, auditing and work life research. As a main rule, these positions are located in Kristiansand or Grimstad, Norway, and the duration of the PhD-period is three years. However, priority may be given to projects involving more than one year at a partner and/or cotutelle university abroad. Furthermore, depending on the applicants’ profile and academic experience, some might be offered four-year positions including 25 % teaching or other tasks at the School of Business and Law. For some of the positions fluency in a Scandinavian language might be required.

The School of Business and Law at University of Agder is one of the major university-based business schools in Norway, with approximately 2000 students, around 80 faculty members and a vibrant PhD-programme with around 50 PhD-Scholars. The School of Business and Law offers an active research environment with close collaboration between professors and PhD-students.

Description of positions

To further strengthen selected academic areas at the Business School, a new PhD-student cohort will start up from January/February 2019.

The applicants must qualify for admission to the PhD-programme at the School of Business and Law and must hold a Master of science degree (300 ECTS including a master thesis) in a field relevant for the proposed PhD-studies like Economics, Marketing, Finance, International Business, Management or similar business school fields. Also, applicants who are in the process of finishing their master’s theses are welcome to apply for the positions.

Qualifications and terms

The appointees must have the ability to work in a goal-oriented, organised, focused and independent manner. During the assessment process, emphasis will be placed on the applicant’s examination results, as well as any previous research and development work. Strong qualifications in applied research methods are expected, and fluency in written and oral English is a prerequisite. Relevant practical and teaching experience, personal suitability and good teamwork skills will also be emphasised. It is a prerequisite that the candidates attend PhD-programme activities and actively participate in the school’s research environment.

Short-listed applicants will be invited for interviews, possibly also a trial lecture, or other kinds of pre-examinations. With the applicant’s permission, UiA will conduct a reference check.

Accepted candidates from outside the European Union are required to secure needed Schengen visa in due time.

Competitive remuneration

The positions are remunerated within the State salary scale; salary plan 17.515, code 1017 Research Fellow, giving a gross salary per year of NOK 449.400. A 2% compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.

Applicants must submit a full curriculum including transcripts of grades, academic references, a project description of no more than four pages and a one-page letter of motivation, which should include arguments for why a suggested supervisor would be a good fit for the proposed research project. The project description should include possible research questions/ hypotheses, a theoretical framework, potential data sources and a progress plan. An essential part of the assessment of applicants is the quality of the project description and whether it fits with available supervisors’ research interest. Completed tests like GMAT/GRE/TOEFL will strengthen the application.

  • If applicable, copies of up to three scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals
