The Vice-Rector for Research and Projects is responsible for the planning, development and implemention of research and projects at EPOKA University, in line with the  vision, mission and strategic objectives of the University. Reporting to the Rector, the Vice-Rector is expected to play a key role in further promoting, enhancing and mainstreaming research and project contribution/output of faculty members and of his own, both at the national and international level, contributing thus to the raising of the profile and achievements of the University in abovementioned areas.

Main Responsibilities of the Vice-Rector for Research and Projects:

  1. acts on behalf of the Rector in his absence upon authorization by the latter;
  2. organizes and supervises  the research and development processes at the University level;
  3. crovides guidance and academic leadership that promotes an environment and culture that encourages, facilitates and supports the conduct of research and projects;
  4. co-ordinates all the research-related activities of the University at the institutional, national and international levels that contribute to achievement of the strategic goals determined in the EPOKA University Framework Strategy 2018-2022, including the periodic assesment of the implemention of the said Strategic Plan;
  5. in coordination with the Research and Projects Office, provides support to faculty members to identify and secure external funds through national, regional and international grants, partnerships and contracts at the institutional and individual level;
  6. monitors and controls the progress of scientific research at  research centers;
  7. organizes and supervises the process of long-term specialization of academic and research-oriented staff within and outside the country;
  8. pursues and promotes scientific cooperation between University units  and scientific research institutions, other higher education institutions, industry and  companies;
  9. conducts studies and analyses concerning the future development of the University in these specific areas and submits them to the Rector;
  10. prepares and submits to the Rector potential research projects, and contributes to the University research output through individual research;
  11. supports joint research programs with partner institutions;
  12. contributes toward securing the future financial sustainability of the University through strategic international project funding initiatives;
  13. contributes to teaching and research as a faculty member;
  14. may be required to undertake such other duties commensurate with the nature and level of the post as directed by the Rector.


The Vice-Rector for Research and Projects is expected to have the following professional qualifications and expertise:

  1. Professorial or equivalent standing, with a research reputation and profile commensurate with at least 5 years experience in a senior academic management position.
  2. Strong academic credentials in a reputable higher educational institution and evidence of continuous professional development.
  3. A thorough knowledge and experience in research related issues impacting the higher education sector practices.
  4. A proven track record in the higher education sector of positioning an institution/division/operation for future success.
  5. A proven track record of project application and management, particularly concerning Horizon2020, Erasmus+, industry-university research and similar projects;
  6. Ability to contribute to institutional policy development on research and projects issues;
  7. Demonstrable competence in managing sizable groups of academics and professionals.

  1. Inspirational leadership and management skills, including a commitment to high performance and continuous improvement.
  2. Proven skills and the ability to represent the interests of the University in policy debates at the national and international level.
  3. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including crafting complex messages for diverse stakeholders.
  4. An agile and flexible outlook to respond effectively to the pace of change in the Higher Education sector.
  5. Good teamwork skills, be able to listen and evaluate opinions with good judgment/decisions.
