The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, a leading institution in economic and management research in the Baltic region, is looking for a promising young researcher to fill a position of a Postdoctoral Researcher in Marketing (specialization in digital marketing and consumer privacy).

About the Project

Modern marketing technologies allow businesses not just to receive data provided by a consumer, but also to track his/her behaviors, especially – online. The obtained data allows individualized offers to be developed that could be beneficial both to buyers and to sellers. However, many activities may be tracked with little knowledge and understanding from the side of a tracked person. This may give rise to privacy issues with certain types of data collection.

Disclosure of data when used improperly presents significant risks. Though privacy concerns are widely studied, the willingness to disclose personal data for commercial purposes is rapidly changing and subject to technological and legal developments. The issue is especially important in Europe in the context of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that requires data to be collected only after affirmation of consent from the data subject and thus precisely delineates the scope of permission marketing. The willingness to disclose personal data becomes highly dependent on the trust in the processor of the data, as well as on the perceived benefit that is expected from the data disclosure.
