Central European University (CEU) is seeking candidates for an Assistant Professor position in Entrepreneurship & Innovation. The position will offer an internationally competitive teaching load, a generous research start-up package, and a university environment that fosters multidisciplinary collaboration and research productivity. The candidate will have the opportunity to participate in doctoral supervision as well as teach the core innovation and entrepreneurship module in the university’s Executive MBA. The successful candidate will also teach MBA electives in areas of the candidate’s research interests. The Executive MBA is at the center of CEU’s 2025 strategy, guaranteeing the chosen candidate an exciting opportunity to be a vital contributor to the strategic goals of a major European university (following CEU’s move from Budapest to Vienna).

Requirements

We are seeking a scholar with expertise in entrepreneurship and/or innovation research with the potential to deliver outstanding teaching in these fields. An important part of the role will be to serve as the academic lead of CEU’s incubator (“iLab") and collaborate with the Director and staff of the incubator. The successful candidate will contribute to iLab’s intellectual role within the university, bridging the practical work done by iLab (i.e., helping start-ups scale up and graduate from the incubator) with academic analysis of this process. The successful candidate could also benefit from involvement with the iLab by using it as a rich source of empirical research data. While we are open to the exact areas of research interest, we are especially interested in candidates who have research and teaching interests in the following areas:

  • Social Entrepreneurship
  • Social Innovation
  • Entrepreneurship and innovation in underserved populations
  • Entrepreneurial Finance
  • Disruptive Innovation and Sustainability
  • Action Learning and Research

Candidate Attributes

Applicants must be committed to performing quality research (leading to publication), teaching, and service to the university, profession, and community. In particular, successful candidates should be able to contribute to a multidisciplinary program for fostering entrepreneurship and innovation research and teaching through links with industry and local communities. Applicants must have a doctoral degree in a relevant field by the beginning of the appointment (i.e., August 2022). The successful applicant will also possess:

  • Clear potential and commitment to scholarly research in the field through a demonstrated pipeline of published, submitted and working papers in reputable, peer-reviewed journals.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence and course development (preferably in the North American university and higher education context).
  • Ability to combine research productivity with involvement in program development.

Compensation

We offer a competitive yearly salary of 60.000 EUR, commensurate with experience as well as additional benefits (e.g. pension plan). The initial contract is for six years. Contracts are renewable and can be turned into indefinite contracts depending on outcome of review.

Application Materials

Applicants should express their interest in the position by sending the following:

  • A current curriculum vitae including the names and full contact details of at least two professional referees.
  • A cover letter explaining their motivations to apply for the post and the suitability of their credentials for the advertised post.
  • A brief statement of research interests and plans (max two pages).
  • Two recent published or working papers.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence (e.g., teaching evaluations, current course syllabi).

Please send your complete application package to advert063@ceu.edu – including the job code in the subject line: 2021/063.

We do not ask for reference letters at the first stage of application; the referees of long-listed candidates may be contacted for references later by CEU.
