Assistant Professor in Computer Science with focus on “Big Data Infrastructures”
(non-tenure track)

The University of St.Gallen is strengthening its degree programs in Computer Science with a new Assis-tant Professorship in the field of Big Data Infrastructures. We seek an individual who will direct the crea-tion of a new research group in this context while being motivated by the prospect to actively contribute to the further development of the School of Computer Science at the University of St.Gallen, and to build bridges with other disciplines at our university. This Assistant Professorship position is created in the context of a new collaboration of the University of St.Gallen with the Austrian state of Vorarlberg and will be endowed with the full funding for three research assistant positions to build a powerful research group. While the position is fully embedded in the School of Computer Science at the University of St.Gallen, the candidate’s main work location is at the to-be-founded HSG Institute of Computer Science Vorarlberg, which will also host the research group and is at the center of the local industry in Dornbirn, Austria (45 minutes from St. Gallen).

Successful candidates have a PhD in Computer Science or a related field and the potential to develop in-ternational recognition in one or several of the topics of the call. They bring sufficient academic maturity and independence in research and teaching. A track record in industry collaboration as well as in third-party funding is desired. Enthusiasm for teaching and the development of new courses is expected to shape the Computer Science programs at the University of St. Gallen.

The university is searching for candidates with a strong research background in one or more of the fol-lowing topics:

  • Distributed data processing and Big Data frameworks
  • Stream processing and complex event processing
  • Infrastructures and methods for scalable processing of real-time (industrial) sensor data
  • Large-scale data management/data analytics
  • Technologies and methods for managing data science processes along the data value chain (information extraction, information integration, data management, modelling, model appli-cation and productive use)
  • Tools and frameworks for highly flexible, scalable, and extensible processing for data streams and data storage
  • Efficient and scalable processing of large, heterogeneous data sets with low latency and high efficiency.

We are looking for a team-oriented and committed personality whose research activities offer links to the School of Computer Science at the University of St.Gallen. For this position, we seek candidates per May 1st, 2023, or by mutual agreement.
